In October 2024, the No. 13 train that covered the Havana-Guantánamo route was attacked with stones in Santiago de Cuba, between the municipalities of Mella and Baraguá. The incident caused panic among the passengers, although it was brought under control thanks to the police intervention on board.

On that occasion, the conductor of the affected train described the attack as "despicable" and expressed her regret over the fear experienced by the passengers. The director of the National Routes Agency, Orgiel Pérez Milanés, recalled a previous incident in which a girl was injured following a stone-throwing attack on another train heading to Santiago de Cuba.

The official emphasized that, beyond the material damage, this type of aggression directly impacts dozens of people, as each disabled vehicle leaves many passengers without service, including those with medical or family emergencies.

Attacks on the Havana-Bayamo train have also been reported in less than a year, with damage noted to the windows of seats 1 and 2 in car number two, as well as to the national train Havana-Holguín.

The Cuban Railways Union has reiterated that in response to these incidents, an immediate response protocol is activated, involving stations, railway police, and investigative bodies.

The buses in Havana have suffered acts of vandalism. In April, several vehicles were stoned on various routes of the capital during their regular trips.

The Minister of Transport, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, stated that the perpetrators of these attacks have the utmost condemnation from the Cuban people and "will face the penalties that such actions deserve."
