The Cuban-American congressman Mario Díaz-Balart supported on Thursday the deportation of former Cuban Ministry of Interior official Daniel Morejón García, stating that it represents a firm step against the impunity of the repressors of the Castro regime.
"President Trump committed to upholding the rule of law, and this deportation is another example of him fulfilling that promise. The regime's thugs have no place in the United States," wrote the Republican lawmaker on his official account on X.
Morejón García was deported to Cuba on May 30, following a court order issued a month earlier. The former official was arrested in South Florida on April 30 by agents of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), in coordination with the FBI and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), after it was discovered that he had concealed his direct involvement in the violent repression against the protesters of July 11, 2021 (11J), as noted by Martí Noticias.
According to Congressman Díaz-Balart, this expulsion "not only represents a victory for the national security of the United States; it is also an act of justice on behalf of the thousands of innocent Cubans who continue to suffer under this regime and who remain unjustly imprisoned."
An immigration offensive against the regime's repressors
The Morejón case occurs amidst an escalation of measures by the government of Donald Trump, who on June 5 signed a presidential proclamation that imposes immigration restrictions on citizens of seven countries, including Cuba. The order distinguishes between immigrant and non-immigrant entries, but reinforces controls in both cases.
"I have decided to restrict and partially limit the entry of nationals from the following seven countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela," states the official text.

During a recent press conference in Miami, Chargé d'Affaires Mike Hammer confirmed that legal provisions prohibiting the granting of visas to individuals with recent ties to the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) or who have worked for state institutions are being enforced more strictly.
"We are reinforcing U.S. laws that prevent visas from being granted to members of the Communist Party of Cuba who have held high office or have been active militants up until recent years," Hammer stated.
"What we want to avoid is having the repressors on the streets of South Beach, enjoying a mojito. That cannot be, it's not fair," he added.
Personal sanctions against Díaz-Canel for human rights violations
The tightening of immigration measures also includes personal sanctions against the Cuban leader himself, Miguel Díaz-Canel. The State Department announced last Friday, on the anniversary of 11J, a ban on entry to the U.S. for the leader and his immediate family, due to their involvement in serious human rights violations.
These decisions mark a decisive shift in U.S. policy towards the repressors of the Cuban regime, with a powerful message: impunity has no place on American soil.
