The distressing search for Daylon Fleitas, a 37-year-old Cuban who had been missing in Hialeah since early August, has ended in the worst possible way.
After more than a week of searching and uncertainty, authorities found his body in a remote area in the southwest of Miami-Dade County.
The body was found not far from where his abandoned truck was located, according to a report by Univision based on the police report.
On Sunday, August 3rd, Daylon told his brother that he would go out "to collect some money that was owed to him", and that he would meet with an acquaintance.
He drove his black 2011 Ford F-150 pickup truck with Florida license plate RPQW74, but he never returned home.
"I then decided to call hospitals, to see if he was being held at any police station... but I didn't receive any information," his brother had previously reported to the mentioned network.
The person with whom they were supposedly supposed to meet claimed that the meeting never took place.
Since then, nothing was heard from Daylon, who was the father of three children.
The discovery in a remote area
The authorities found his truck hidden among the bushes near the Everglades.
Not far from there lay the lifeless body of Daylon. The exact location has not been revealed, but it is known to be in a sparsely populated area of southwest Miami-Dade.
The Homicide Bureau of the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation, although so far it has not provided any information regarding possible suspects or confirmed whether one or more individuals are being sought.
Neither the official cause of death nor the exact circumstances in which he was found have been disclosed.
It is also unclear what happened from the moment he left home until his body was found.
