On her wedding day, Mili (@mili_ugc), a young Cuban living in Florida, prepared by herself. With no friends, no family nearby, and no one to accompany her on this special moment for every bride, she silently did her makeup and got dressed while in the next room her wife’s friends helped her with laughter.

That moment was shared on TikTok with a video that quickly went viral: it is about to reach 15 million views. In it, she wrote: “I got ready for my wedding all by myself, listening in the next room to my future wife's friends having fun while they prepared her. My mother and sister are 90 miles away. I don't care if you never speak to me again.”

The post generated an avalanche of reactions. Many people identified with her story; others, confused, believed it was a reproach towards their partner. In light of the unexpected virality, Mili decided to clarify what happened.

"The message was misunderstood. That's why I took the time to explain it. My wife offered me her friends, but she needed more help than I did, because she doesn't know about makeup, and they even did her nails. I am sure about the person I chose. The problem was that the friends I invited canceled on me the day before, and I truly felt their absence," she wrote in a comment before expanding on her story in another video.

Mili explained that the wedding was held in an Airbnb, a small space where only a few people were allowed. She and her wife invited two friends each. Her wife's friends attended; however, hers canceled the day before.

"I was going to handle it myself anyway, but you always need someone there to support you. When the moment came, I felt bad," she confessed.

Seeing the situation, his wife offered the help of one of her friends. But Mili refused to accept it. "I preferred that they help her," she said.

She also clarified that her family does support her. Her mother, who lives in Cuba, could not be there in person, although she participated via video call. “People know that you can't just bring your family like that,” she explained. “I’m not upset with my family or anyone. I just wanted to share how I felt that day.”

The impact of her story was immediate. Thousands of people—especially women—wrote to her, sharing that they had gone through something similar, that they also felt alone during important moments, or that they simply wanted to send her a hug through the screen.

"You chose the wrong friends, not the wrong partner," "Remarry and we'll all go with you," "I also did my makeup by myself, and it was the hardest day," were some of the comments that were most frequently repeated.

Mili did not expect her testimony to have such an impact, but she appreciated the affection received. “Many people felt identified, and that was the point of sharing it,” she expressed. And thus, what started as a moment of sadness turned into an unexpected support network.
