A Cuban elderly woman was arrested by the police and accused of setting fire to the car of her former landlord, parked inside the home, in the east of the city of Hialeah, the previous week.

Gladys Reinoso, 74 years old, was identified as the person who, on Thursday afternoon, got out of her car, approached the Hernández family's residence, and threw an incendiary object that ignited the fire in the vehicle, a 1967 Ford Mustang, according to the police report.

Reinoso is facing a charge of first-degree arson, reported the network Univision.

The woman had been a tenant of an apartment owned by the Hernández family for 12 years, from which she was evicted between May and June of this year. After that, she had been living in her car, parked near the victims' house.

"Our dog started barking and I saw on the cameras the fire; I thought it was across the street, but when I ran out, I realized it was our car," reported Ingrid Hernández, the owner of the house where the incident took place.

According to his testimony, he quickly grabbed a hose and extinguished the fire before the firefighters arrived.

Reinoso was arrested in front of the house as the alleged person responsible for the fire.

"Seems like she would have a flag against us," Hernández commented to Univision, referring to the eviction that was likely the motive for the incident. "She needed to get back at us for having kicked her out of the home she had."

After appearing in court, Reinoso was sent to a psychiatric hospital in Hialeah for a medical evaluation. During the hearing, the judge ordered her not to have any contact with the Hernández family.

"I believe she needs help; I think the court's decision to take her to a psychiatric facility for medical assistance is the best one," commented Mrs. Hernández regarding the judicial ruling.

This Tuesday, a new hearing will take place in the criminal court, which the Hernández family is required to attend, reported Univision.

According to online police records, Reinoso was allegedly arrested in February 2024 in Miami-Dade County for aggravated assault.
