The Florida Government announced that on September 30, the Internal Improvement Trust Fund Council —composed of Governor Ron DeSantis and his cabinet— will vote on the transfer of a parcel of land at Miami Dade College, located in the city center, to construct the future presidential library of Donald Trump.
The chosen space covers 2.63 acres (4,046 square meters) currently designated for parking, but, according to the official statement, will create economic opportunities for South Florida and establish the first presidential library in the state.
President Trump has achieved results for the American people and has left a mark on the history of our nation. No state implemented his agenda better than Florida, and it would be an honor to host his presidential library here, in his place of residence, expressed DeSantis.
The project has been driven since late 2024, when the non-profit organization Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Fund, Inc. was officially registered. Among the factors that tipped the scales toward Florida are Trump's residence in Mar-a-Lago since 2019, the proximity of the land to the coast, and the Liberty Tower, a historic building recently renovated for 25 million dollars and remembered for having accommodated thousands of Cuban refugees between 1962 and 1974.
The Attorney General of Florida, James Uthmeier, emphasized that the complex will not only recount episodes from Trump's political journey—including the assassination attempts he survived, border enforcement, and military rebuilding—but will also serve as a space to frame what he called “the greatest political comeback in American history.”
The location in the center of Miami was chosen after visits by Eric Trump and family advisors, who evaluated other options such as Florida International University and Florida Atlantic University, but ultimately opted for the land of Miami Dade College. According to sources close to the process, the proximity to the Freedom Tower and the waterfront was decisive.
In addition to the library, the plan includes a broader development that will feature an adjacent hotel, making it the first presidential library with a project of this kind.
The Florida Legislature, dominated by the Republican Party, paved the way by passing a law this year that removes local oversight in the construction of presidential libraries, following previous disputes between Trump and local authorities over patriotic symbols such as the flagpole at his Palm Beach golf club.
If the vote from the state cabinet is unanimous, as anticipated, it will mark the first formal step for downtown Miami to become the permanent home of the Donald Trump library, a project that blends political legacy, immigration history, and tourism ambitions in the Sunshine State.
