A serious traffic accident occurred on Thursday afternoon at the intersection of 70 and 19 streets, in the municipality of Playa, Havana, leaving several injured, although no fatalities have been reported so far.
According to witnesses, the traffic light in the area was not working due to a lack of electricity, which may have contributed to the incident.
A green passenger transport jeep did not obey the stop sign and collided with a white pickup truck, which rolled over at least twice and ended up overturned on the road.
“Several passengers flew through the air,” reported on Facebook the attorney Manuel Viera, an eyewitness to the accident, who shared images and testimonies on social media. The driver of the truck, although injured, managed to get out on his own.
The ambulances arrived about 15 minutes later and provided on-site assistance to the injured, then transferred some of them to nearby hospitals.
The traffic authorities have not yet issued an official report with the exact number of injured individuals or details regarding their health status.
This new accident adds to the growing list of incidents in the Cuban capital, many of which are linked to failures in road infrastructure, poor visibility, or reckless driving, according to authorities.
