This is how Trump complimented the Italian Prime Minister in front of leaders at the summit in Egypt

During the signing of the peace agreement in Gaza held in Egypt, Donald Trump created one of the most talked-about moments of the event by throwing several compliments at the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.

Amid a summit with over twenty international leaders gathered in Sharm el-Sheikh, the President of the United States did not hesitate to comment on Meloni's physical appearance, the only female head of government present, using language that he himself described as politically incorrect in his country.

Trump, euphoric after the signing of the agreement that ended the war in Gaza, took the floor to address each of the leaders present. When it was Meloni's turn, he lowered his solemn tone and made a remark that did not go unnoticed:

"Italy, we have a woman, a young lady who is… they don't allow me to say it because, generally speaking, saying it means the end of your political career. She is a beautiful young woman."

Despite being aware of the risk, he decided to continue with the praise.

"If you use the word 'beautiful' in the United States to refer to a woman, it would mean the end of your political career. But I'm going to take the risk. Where is she? There she is. You don’t mind them calling you beautiful, do you? Because you are. Thank you very much for coming," he said directly to Meloni, who was standing right behind him.

Then he concluded by highlighting his career: "I wanted to be here, and it's incredible. And in Italy, they have a lot of respect for her. She is a very successful politician, very successful."

The cameras barely managed to capture Meloni's reaction, as Trump was facing away, but the Prime Minister was seen wearing a restrained smile while the Republican addressed her from the stage.

Trump promotes Giorgia Meloni's book

Not satisfied with the controversial compliment, Trump has struck back this Tuesday, in this case on Truth Social, where he did not hesitate to promote an autobiographical book published by the Italian Prime Minister.

"Giorgia Meloni, the GREAT Prime Minister of Italy, has written a new book: I Am Giorgia: My Roots, My Principles. Giorgia is doing an incredible job for the wonderful Italian people, and this book explores her journey of faith, family, and love for the homeland, which provided her with the wisdom and courage needed to serve her nation and make her people proud," wrote the U.S. president.

"It is an inspiration for everyone. Get your copy today!" he added, with a direct link to Amazon, where the book is sold for 21 dollars.

A diplomatic setting for a personal scene

The unusual compliment – which some media outlets have openly criticized – took place during the international summit organized to finalize an agreement that has ended two years of conflict in Gaza.

Trump, alongside the presidents of Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar, signed the document in a solemn event that marked the beginning of what he referred to as a new era for the Middle East.

"At last there is peace in the Middle East," Trump declared from the podium, just minutes after signing the agreement, which follows the ceasefire and the release of the living hostages taken by Hamas in the attack on October 7, 2023. Neither Israel nor Hamas participated in the signing.

During his speech, Trump also referred to future negotiations based on his "20-point plan," which, he said, are advancing faster than expected:

Meloni avoids controversy and praises the agreement

Meloni, for her part, avoided commenting on Trump's personal remarks. Instead, she chose to focus on the importance of the agreement reached and the need to act responsibly in this new phase of the peace process.

"The biggest risk we face is not being pragmatic. We must avoid anything that could inflame passions and anything that might serve as an excuse. We need to be very clear-headed right now; this is a call I make to everyone, because this is a very delicate phase, but one that can bring us great satisfaction," he said.

Additionally, he praised Trump's role in the signing of the agreement: "This is a great success for Donald Trump. I believe he is right to say that this is a significant achievement, and we wish him even more success, starting with Ukraine."

Italy, as mentioned earlier, will actively participate in the reconstruction of Gaza and seek to position itself as a bridge between Europe and the Arab world.

And he added about the release of hostages:

"It is an extraordinary achievement, the result of the determination of international diplomacy and the implementation of the first phase of President Donald Trump's Peace Plan."
