Cuban woman arrested for allegedly attacking relatives in Miami-Dade: Why did she do it?

A 67-year-old Cuban woman was arrested in Miami-Dade after allegedly being involved in a domestic violence incident that involved the use of a machete against two of her own family members.

The incident, which took place on the night of October 13 at a residence in the southwest of the county, has caused shock due to the intensity of the altercation and the level of violence used.

According to the arrest report -cited by Telemundo 51- the events took place around 9:46 p.m. at a residence located near the intersection of SW 197 Terrace and 123 Court.

Miami-Dade Police Department officers arrived at the scene after receiving multiple calls reporting a person armed with a machete.

Upon arrival, the officers found one of the victims, the niece of the alleged aggressor, who reported that the argument began when the woman, identified as María Sánchez, returned from the hospital.

According to the police report, during the altercation, Sánchez went to his room, took a machete, and returned to the living room where his nephews were.

“He began to wield the machete against his nephew”, states the document, and struck him several times, causing him minor injuries.

Later, he would also have attacked his niece, causing her an injury to her right thigh.

After her arrest, María Sánchez was transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight (TGK) Correctional Center.

There she remains incarcerated without the right to bail, according to official records.
