A Cuban citizen was arrested last Sunday after being involved in a violent altercation in a public area in southwest Miami-Dade.

What began as a minor traffic accident quickly escalated into a dangerous confrontation involving a chase, threats, and the use of a firearm, according to local press reports citing police sources.

Everything happened shortly after 4:00 p.m., in the residential area of Hammocks, specifically at the intersection of Southwest 168th Street and 110th.

According to the report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, the victim - whose identity has not been disclosed - explained that, in the midst of a moment of confusion, they accidentally hit a parked vehicle in front of a house.

Still in shock, the driver chose to continue westward, intending to return to the scene of the accident shortly afterward.

However, before being able to reverse their decision, the situation escalated dramatically.

According to his testimony, two men in a silver vehicle began to follow him persistently.

They would later be identified by the authorities as Yulio Navarro-Morales and José Luaces, with at least one of them being of Cuban origin.

Persecution, threats, and gunfire

The two individuals intercepted the victim's car at a nearby intersection.

It was then that one of them got out of the vehicle, approached the driver's window aggressively, and shouted for him to stop and wait for the police.

Fearing for his safety, the victim accelerated to escape, at which point he heard a gunshot behind him.

The projectile, according to the police report, struck the rear right bumper of the vehicle, although fortunately it did not injure the driver.

Far from ending there, the pursuit continued.

Across several streets, Navarro-Morales and Luaces followed the victim until they reached the intersection of Southwest 112th Avenue and 168th Street.

There, Navarro-Morales intercepted him again, blocking his path with the vehicle.

In this second confrontation, he got out of the car again, but this time he was holding a weapon with which he pointed directly at the driver.

The victim, terrified, remained inside her vehicle until law enforcement arrived. It was then that Navarro-Morales and Luaces were apprehended for questioning.

Only one arrested, serious charges

Although both men were initially detained by the police, only Yulio Navarro-Morales was formally arrested.

The arrest report states that he faces charges of firing or launching a deadly missile and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies under Florida law.

The Cuban citizen was transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK). His bail had been set at $5,000.

The authorities have not yet stated whether José Luaces will face additional charges or if his role will be documented solely as an accomplice.

For now, the case remains under investigation, and more evidence is expected to be presented in the judicial process against Navarro-Morales in the coming days.
