The Cuban comedian and philanthropist Limay Blanco has moved many on social media by announcing a campaign to assist the girl who is a victim of abuse in Holguín, a case that has generated deep indignation in Cuba. In an emotional video shared on social media, he requested prayers and support to gather donations “in the name of Jesus,” hoping that everything can reach the young girl.
"Hopefully one day the girl will see this video. I hope she can hold in her hands this entire list I made here, because we are going to buy it for her in the name of Jesus," expressed Limay, who showed a sheet with the items he plans to gather for the little girl.
The artist explained that he has already bought a backpack and is looking to gather a tablet, seven dolls, seven stuffed animals, seven dresses, seven pairs of shorts, seven pairs of socks, seven pairs of panties, seven pairs of sneakers, seven pairs of sandals, a bicycle, a television, a rechargeable fan, a mosquito net, and candies.
"I'm going to share the list; if you can help, great! If not, no worries, I'll organize one or two activities to be able to buy all this," she said on Instagram, where she also shared information on how to collaborate
When sharing the video on social media, he wrote the phrase "A house in Havana for the girl of abuse", next to the logo of his project Cristo Cambia Vidas (CCV).
In his words, he also asked that no one politicize his actions and clarified that he is acting from his Christian faith: “This is not politics. I am a Christian. My heart is in doing something for that girl. I know there are many children like her, but today it is her turn. We have helped many others as well.”
The case of child abuse that occurred in a town in Holguín —where a mother brutally beat her daughter while another person recorded the attack— sparked a wave of outrage across the country. The images, widely circulated on social media, show Elizabeth González Díaz violently hitting the minor, which led to a campaign of condemnation and calls from activists and citizens demanding immediate protection for the girl. The footage shows the little girl tied up in the yard, bloodied and terrified, while another child is forced to pour cold water over her head.
Shortly thereafter, the mother and her partner were arrested by the police in Holguín and were taken into custody for questioning. Neighbors' testimonies indicate that the woman was known for her violent temper and had been involved in incidents of aggression in the past.
Limay's new initiative, on its part, is in addition to its multiple social assistance actions. In early October, it requested support for children hospitalized with dengue, including his own nephew, amidst the scarcity of mosquito nets, repellents, and medications in Cuban hospitals.
Weeks earlier, a mother with three children came to his house begging for food, an incident that he himself documented on social media. Days later, he provided food and appliances thanks to the donations received, reaffirming his commitment to the most vulnerable families.
Through his ministry Cristo Cambia Vidas, the comedian has provided dozens of homes to people in extreme situations and maintains a continuous effort to assist single mothers, the elderly, and sick children. “I’ve been doing this for almost six years now, and it feels good to do good. Help me help,” he has said on other occasions.
