Family members and neighbors from Contramaestre, in the province of Santiago de Cuba, have made a public appeal to locate a man who, according to testimonies shared on social media, has been missing since the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
The messages are requesting urgent assistance from those living near the riverbank, where it is believed he may have gone missing. They report that, despite community efforts, they have been unable to locate the missing person.
According to reports, the man —presumably drowned— was last seen on Wednesday, October 29, around 4:00 pm in a stretch of the river near the area known as "la Rodolfo."
Since then, family members and neighbors have searched the shores up to three times a day without results, while urging residents along the route—from the bridge to the point identified as “la Venta de Casanova”—to join the search and report any findings to a contact number shared by the family.
A relative who identifies herself as the cousin of the missing person—and claims to be on a mission in Venezuela—reported in her messages that, although they notified the firefighters immediately, "they have not taken any action" nor would they have communicated what happened to the command posts.
The woman, who names the missing person as Roberto, claims that the family is “desperate” and that the situation is worsening as days go by without any confirmation of an official search operation.
Another testimony, attributed to a neighbor in the area, demands that the community and authorities intensify the search, emphasizing that behind the missing person are a wife and three children awaiting news.
The messages are accompanied by requests for mass dissemination, with the intention of mobilizing more volunteers and alerting anyone who travels or lives along the riverbanks in the mentioned areas.
Until the time of the mentioned calls, the family members reported no positive results from the searches nor official confirmations regarding systematic search operations.
A similar story emerged this week when a young woman from Río Cauto, in the province of Granma, publicly requested help to locate her father, an operator who —she reported— became trapped in the rising waters of the Cauto River while on duty.
The daughter stated that she had no response from her father, Pablo López Infante, regarding his condition, and she denounces contradictory reports amid a flood situation that has impacted neighborhoods in the municipality.
The Granma resident explained that her father went out "to fulfill his work" and was stranded at the Miradero electrical substation near the Cauto River.
