The authorities of Sagua de Tánamo confirmed this Sunday the discovery of the lifeless body of Antonio Angulo Caballero, 74 years old, the other Cuban who had been reported missing four days ago during the river's flooding in that municipality of the province of Holguín.

The body of Angulo Caballero, who lived in the El Jobo popular council, was found by the river in the Aflijes area, in the Marieta popular council, as detailed in the official information published on Facebook by journalist Via Lisbet Ramos Columbié from the radio station Ecos de Sagua.

The Salvage and Rescue unit of the municipality of Moa and the volunteers from the Red Cross in the local area of Sagua de Tánamo are on the scene "carrying out the necessary actions," he stated.

The body will be transferred by the Rescue and Salvage team, to which "their hard work is greatly appreciated," highlighted the statement.

This Saturday, the body of Luis Pérez Rodríguez, 64 years old, was found and identified after being reported missing on the 23rd, past 8:00 a.m., during the river overflow due to the heavy rains that have occurred in that Holguin territory over the past week.

His body was discovered at the mouth of the river, where members of the Fire Department, police officers, and specialists from the Ministry of the Interior arrived, according to the official report. Pérez Rodríguez was an employee of the UEB Correos and a resident of the Ciudad Sur popular council.

The Facebook page “Bloguero Tanameño” initially reported the disappearance and presumed drowning death of both men on Thursday.

The next day, the authorities confirmed that they were "missing from their homes" and the search efforts by the Rescue Unit of the municipality of Moa, the Red Cross, family members, and volunteers were ongoing.

It was then known that Angulo Caballero had left on October 22, after 7:00 a.m., to his farm in the Miguel area, from which he did not return; while Pérez Rodríguez headed to the Zabala area on the 23rd, and a witness saw a person with similar characteristics to him attempting to cross the bridge covered by water, where he was presumably swept away by the current.

The authorities of the municipality toured several strategic points in Sagua de Tánamo on Friday to assess the protective measures and search efforts, and at that time assured that the river was "within its banks" following the decrease in rainfall. They also visited the families of the victims.

From the beginning, it was ruled out that these cases were directly related to the influence of the then tropical storm Melissa during its progression through the central Caribbean Sea. However, the persistent rainfall recorded in recent days may have contributed to the rise of the Sagua de Tánamo River and the difficult terrain conditions in the eastern part of the country.
