The organization Cáritas Santa Clara, part of the Catholic Church in Cuba, has reported that since this morning it has begun receiving donations intended for the families affected by the hurricane Melissa in Santiago de Cuba.
According to the institution's communication on its social media, numerous kind-hearted individuals have contributed clothing, hygiene products, and household items. These donations will be dispatched in the coming hours to the most affected areas, where thousands of families have lost their homes and belongings following the passage of the powerful cyclone.
"Many people have turned to Cáritas with gestures of solidarity. Every contribution, no matter how small it may seem, represents hope for those who have lost everything," the statement indicated.
The humanitarian support aims to relieve the situation of the hundreds of thousands of victims left in the wake of Hurricane Melissa as it swept through eastern Cuba, a region severely hit by flooding, destruction of homes, power outages, and food shortages.
The provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Holguín, Granma, Guantánamo, and Las Tunas are among the most affected, with entire communities still cut off and thousands of people in temporary shelters.
The magnitude of the disaster has sparked a national and international solidarity mobilization, in which Cáritas plays a key role in ensuring that aid reaches families in need directly. The Catholic organization works in coordination with local parishes and volunteers, ensuring a transparent and effective distribution of the donated resources.
The organization, located in Villa Clara, reminded that all individuals interested in contributing can drop off their donations at the Cáritas Santa Clara office, located on Unión Street #13 between Buen Viaje and Céspedes, or at the nearest parishes, which will also be set up as collection points.
Cáritas reaffirmed its commitment to bear witness to God's love through acts of solidarity, without distinction of faith or condition, and emphasized that its mission is to defend human dignity and support the most vulnerable in times of crisis.
