A Cuban resident in Miami went viral on TikTok after posting a video in which she lashes out at Cubans on the island who ask for food shipments or "combos" as if it requires no sacrifice at all.

"I would like to know what those Cubans in Cuba have in their heads when they say to you: ‘Oh, send me a food combo; it doesn't cost you anything.’ Do you know what it costs to get up at five in the morning? Do you know what it's like to get on an expressway with terrible traffic just to arrive at work super stressed? Do you know what it's like to endure mistreatment from bosses? What do you know about what it costs me to send you a food combo?" expressed the young woman identified as @dallanayroman on her TikTok account.

The video, which has garnered thousands of views and comments in just a few hours, sparked a strong debate among Cubans both inside and outside the island. Many emigrants agreed with the young woman, pointing out that "earning a dollar in the United States is not easy," while others criticized her for her lack of empathy towards those facing the economic crisis in Cuba.

The TikToker also reported the lack of understanding she perceives from some family members and friends on the island, who —as she explained— do not grasp the effort it takes to maintain two lives: that of the emigrant and that of those left behind.

The discussion reflects a common reality in the Cuban community: the emotional and economic burden borne by those living outside the country who support their increasingly impoverished relatives in Cuba with their remittances or shipments.
