The Cuban content creator known on TikTok as @la_perdularia_floweuropa touched the hearts of hundreds of users by sharing an emotional video in which she reflects on the emotional burden of migration and the quest for freedom away from Cuba.
"Being Cuban is the burden I love the most and the one that weighs the heaviest on me, because one doesn't leave Cuba; one is ripped away. I had to leave my life behind, my people, my history, my heart, everything. And it hurts to leave the place where you wanted to stay. It hurts to know that even though we have a whole country for ourselves, the country is not ours," expressed the Cuban resident in Spain.
In her video, she not only talks about the experience of leaving her life in Cuba behind but also the impact it had on her motherhood.
"A year and five months ago, my girl, my love, my whole life was born in Spain. But even though she was born here, she still carried my cross. As a result, her nationality was denied. For me, that felt like a cold splash of water, because I realized that everything I had lived through had been for nothing: every border, every fear, every sleepless night... it had all been in vain."
The young woman shares that her greatest desire was for her daughter not to repeat her story. “I only wanted one thing: for her not to know what it was like to live without freedom. That she would never have to run away, that she would never have to dig her heart out of one place to bury it in another.”
At the end of the video, their story takes an emotional turn. “Today, with this passport in hand and a lump in my throat, I thank God, Spain, and life. Because my daughter will have all the opportunities that I never had. And that is priceless.”
It shows a Spanish passport, confirming that he has managed to regularize his status and that of his daughter. His story symbolizes the beginning of a new chapter, where the little girl can grow up in a democratic country, free and without the burden of a homeland that expels its children for thinking differently or impoverishes them and limits their dreams.
The video by @la_perdularia_floweuropa reflects the feelings of thousands of Cubans who have had to leave behind everything they love, yet do not renounce their identity. Because, as she herself says, being Cuban is a cross that hurts, but also a flag that is never abandoned.
