In Holguín, there is a house that is part of popular imagination, not for its beauty, but because it has been wrapped in speculation, mysteries for years, and evokes fears among the people who visit the area. It is known as "the haunted house of Báguanos".

This is a chalet that is over fifty years old, visible from the road that connects Holguín with Mayarí and Moa, on the way to Rejodones. The profile of Facebook Intrigas Leyendas recently dedicated a post to it and has sparked a major debate about the history of this property.

The house has a low, modern-looking plaque. It is surrounded by greenery but is visible from the road. At first glance, it appears to be a simple Cuban country cottage, but its history has sparked curiosity and comments.

A story that was born from abandonment

One version of the origin of this house states that it was built in the 1950s by a Galician immigrant named Belisario Ramos and his wife Obdulia. They raised their children there and established their home, but over time, due to health issues, the couple moved to the city of Holguín.

The house passed into the hands of its descendants until it was finally left uninhabited for a long period. This abandonment gave rise to rumors. Neighbors and curious onlookers began to wander through the yards, reporting strange noises and objects moving on their own.

Another version, commented by the user Arsenio Tomás Pérez on Facebook, claims that the legend about the house is unfounded.

"I was born and raised in that neighborhood. The owner of that house lived next door in a warehouse he owned, before the triumph of the revolution (1959). The house was built by the manufacturers of Jabón Candado, and when the owner passed away, it was abandoned; it became a basic premise of the State, where a family lived for many years. Then it became uninhabited due to the risk of collapse," he noted.

In all versions, there is a common factor: the house was abandoned for a long time and, as the years went by, the mystery surrounding it deepened.

The current residents are a family who occupied the property after losing their home during Hurricane Noel (2007). They have lived there ever since, but that hasn't stopped the story of "the haunted house of Báguanos" from being passed down from generation to generation.

The Instagram profile @holguinenfotos visited these people and they claim to have witnessed nothing unusual. For them, this property has simply been a perfect place to rebuild their lives.

Myths and Legends in the Fields of Cuba

The "haunted house of Báguanos" reflects how in Cuban rural communities, uninhabited spaces hold significant symbolic value. There, legends easily arise and stories are kept alive through oral tradition.

No one has entered that house in search of paranormal phenomena. Its inhabitants sleep soundly and peacefully, but the myth continues to grow, supported by the physical deterioration of the building, which, instead of modern windows, features mysterious planks with slits to let in light and air.

"My parents have been living in that house for several years, and as they have already stated themselves, there is nothing supernatural," affirmed Yani Aguileras (@yaguicas) on Instagram.

Some residents of Holguín claim that there are other haunted houses in nearby locations, such as Brisas de Yareyal, where there were also reports of cauldrons filled with earth, lights on, and chains clinking under the full moon.

Would you dare to spend a night in one of these country houses in Cuba, or are you one of those people who fears the Babujal?
