A traffic accident that occurred on the stretch known as La Gloriosa, on the road connecting the town of Gaspar (Baraguá municipality) with the city of Ciego de Ávila, has raised concerns among drivers and residents of the area, where, according to testimonies, accidents have become frequent.
The information began circulating on social media, where witnesses shared videos and photos of the crash involving several vehicles, including a trailer and at least two cars, which sustained material damage.
According to a post by digital creator Alexander Ríos Cruz on Facebook, there were no fatalities, although there were several injured.
In the comments on her post, someone claimed to be a relative of one of the affected individuals and confirmed that "there are no fatalities, only injuries and material losses."
However, another internet user noted that "they operate on the truck driver, the rest just receive a few blows."
Drivers hold recklessness responsible
The outrage of the witnesses was not just focused on the accident, but on what they consider a pattern of irresponsibility behind the wheel in that stretch of the province.
The driver Yunior Tamayo Barrios, who recorded a video from the scene, directly attributed the incident to the recklessness of several drivers.
"This is a call to all drivers, they're driving like crazy," he wrote while posting the video showing the wrecked vehicles and a large number of people in the area.
Yunior stated that he constantly travels on the highway and that the lack of caution from other drivers puts at risk the lives of those who do try to respect the road.
In the video, he stated: "They don't respect each other's lane, they swerve into each other, and you have to throw yourself into the ditch. Take care of your family, December is coming and it's going to be bad. Look at this destruction… these are the irresponsibilities of drivers who are reckless on the streets."
He also warned about the increase in accidents in recent days: "Between yesterday and today, how many accidents on the same road in Ciego de Ávila."
A road known for its danger
Comments from residents on social media indicate that this area of Gaspar Road is one of the most dangerous in the province.
A user explained that it is "one of the top routes with the most accidents in the year," while another commented that on that stretch "this year they've already lost count of the accidents that have occurred."
While no official reports of the incident have been provided, neighbors agree that the combination of recklessness and high incidence of accidents in the area calls for greater control and responsibility from those traveling on the road.
