US President Donald Trump confirmed this Monday that he will visit China next April following an "excellent" call with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

"I just had an excellent phone conversation with President Xi of China. We discussed various topics, such as Ukraine/Russia, fentanyl, soybeans, and other agricultural products, etc.," the Republican announced on Truth Social.

"The president Xi invited me to visit Beijing in April, which I accepted, and in return, he will be my guest on a state visit to the United States later this year," he added.

Trump claimed that the relationship with the Asian giant is "extremely strong" and that they followed up on the "successful meeting in South Korea three weeks ago."

"Since then, both parties have made significant progress in keeping our agreements updated and accurate. We can now focus on the bigger picture," he specified.

For its part, the Chinese state news agency stated that Xi discussed with Trump his demand for the return of Taiwan to its control.

The conversation is part of the framework of cooperation that Washington and Beijing have been negotiating for months and that includes trade and strategic commitments.

Last October, both leaders met in South Korea, and in June, both countries reached a trade agreement under which the U.S. will impose a 55% tariff on Chinese products, while China will maintain a 10% tariff on American goods.

The agreement also included a significant gesture towards the academic community: the U.S. administration will grant visas to Chinese students enrolled in universities in the country.
