The health condition of the Cuban political prisoner Yosvany Rosell García Caso has severely deteriorated after completing 35 days on a hunger strike, as reported this Wednesday by activist Mailín Sánchez, who called for urgent international intervention due to the risk of death for the prisoner.

"Starting at 2 in the morning, he began experiencing dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea, severe symptoms, along with little urine output; his kidneys are also being affected. His condition is getting worse," Sánchez alerted on Facebook from Montevideo, Uruguay.

"God protect him. If something happens to Yosvany, this family will be killed alive. What great malice. He is a father suffering alone just for wanting to be with his children and see them grow," the activist added.

Rosell García Caso, sentenced to 15 years in prison for participating in the protests of July 11, 2021 (11J) in Holguín, has been identified by human rights organizations as a victim of political reprisals.

His family claims that he is not receiving medical attention and that the prisoner remains in isolation.

According to sources from the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH), the prisoner is in a life-threatening condition after more than a month without consuming solid food.

“Yosvany is putting his life at extreme risk to demand freedom and justice. His situation is critical, and the regime has not provided any response,” said a source from the organization.

Activists report that political prisoners on hunger strike are often punished with isolation and deprived of medical attention, which violates international human rights standards.

Relatives of Yosvany Rosell have requested the urgent intervention of international organizations such as the UN, the European Union, and Amnesty International, in light of the authorities' refusal to transfer him to a hospital or allow him to receive specialized treatment.

A professional welder and father of three, Yosvany Rosell was arrested after peacefully participating in the demonstrations on 11J.

According to Cubalex, his conviction is based on charges fabricated by the regime. Activists view him as a symbol of resistance against political repression in Cuba.
