Lis Cuesta Peraza, wife of the Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel, confessed on social media that things in Cuba are becoming increasingly difficult and asked at the tomb of the dictator Fidel Castro for his spirit to guide her.
"FIDEL, when the road gets tough, I turn back to you. Your mark continues to guide our path. Homeland or Death. We will overcome!" said Lis on their personal profile on X.
The so-called "not first lady" reappeared on social media this Wednesday, sharing images from a trip she took with her husband to Santiago de Cuba.
This official visit to eastern Cuba comes after weeks of harsh criticism on social media for its silence and absence during the crisis caused by Hurricane Melissa in that region of the country.
Lis visited the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, where the remains of Fidel Castro lie, in a gesture that many interpret as an attempt to reaffirm her loyalty to the regime amidst popular discontent.
Previously, she had shared another photo where she appeared very active and smiling in Mayarí, Holguín, her home province, accompanying Díaz-Canel on a tour of a school affected by the hurricane.
Her sudden devotion to Fidel Castro has been perceived as a propaganda maneuver on social media, where numerous users criticized the "staged event" and recalled that she only appears in times of crisis to try to improve the tarnished public image of her husband and the government.
