The Cuban influencer Mirelis, known on social media as @mirelis_narraciones, launched a harsh criticism against Lis Cuesta, the wife of the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, which has left vast areas of eastern Cuba underwater and thousands of families without homes or basic resources.
Has anyone seen her? It seems that the First Lady of Cuba has forgotten what the real people look like. Where is she? I haven't seen her in muddy sneakers, distributing medicine, food, or water, not even offering a word of hope and comfort to those who have lost everything,” expressed the influencer in a post on TikTok that quickly went viral.
Mirelis added with irony and disappointment: “Where is that supportive Holguin woman? Where is the one who boasts of being a revolutionary? Lis, in Holguín, your town, your people, your neighborhood is still under water, and I haven’t seen a single photo of you with the children who have wet mattresses.”
His message sparked a wave of comments and reactions on social media, where many users echoed the question: Where is Lis Cuesta?.
The public absence of Díaz-Canel's wife amid one of the worst humanitarian crises in the country has raised serious questions about her role and her supposed "revolutionary sensitivity."
This is not the first time Cuesta has faced criticism for her silence during times of tragedy. The so-called "not-first lady" has cultivated an image of privilege and disconnection from the reality of the Cuban people for years.
Lis Cuesta acts as a true representative of power, accompanying her husband to international banquets, events of the Communist Party, and official trips, where she is seen in designer dresses, jewelry, and escorts. However, when tragedy knocks on the door of the people, she disappears.
After the passage of Hurricane Melissa, the town is once again asking the same question as Mirelis: Where is Lis Cuesta when Cuba needs her?
