Cuban baseball experienced another episode this Saturday that highlights the severe deterioration of its infrastructure, as the game between Pinar del Río and Granma, part of the 64th National Series, was suspended because the players were unable to sleep all night due to a prolonged blackout at the hotel where they were staying.

The suspension was initially confirmed by sports journalist Carlos Hernández Luján, who explained that the break for both teams was impacted by a power outage that lasted for hours in the area of the Guacanayabo hotel in Manzanillo.

Shortly after, the specialized page Yoel al Strike reported that the blackout "threatened the athletes' dreams," forcing the postponement of the match scheduled for this Saturday at the 26 de Diciembre Stadium in Campechuela. As a result, a doubleheader will take place this Sunday starting at 10:00 a.m.

Official media confirm the suspension… but conceal the reason

The broadcaster CMKX Radio Bayamo also reported that the game was postponed, but completely omitted the real reason. The official statement only announced the rescheduling of the match, without mentioning the electrical issue or the impact on the athletes.

This lack of information contrasts with the accounts from independent journalists and sports websites, which did reveal the true reason for the postponement.

The incident occurs just days after another extraordinary event that shook the National Series when the suspension of the game between Matanzas and Camagüey after a massive theft in the dugout and locker room of the Yumurino team, where several players were left literally without belongings or sports equipment.

That suspension, labeled as "unacceptable" by the teams themselves and local media, had already raised alarms about institutional deterioration, a lack of security, and the system's inability to protect its athletes.

Now, with a game halted due to blackouts that prevent the minimal rest necessary to play, the sense of crisis and instability surrounding Cuban baseball deepens, marked by hotels without electricity, stadiums lacking protection, players affected, and a sports calendar faltering due to issues unrelated to the game.
