A Cuban citizen with serious criminal records was arrested in New Orleans by law enforcement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) during “Operation Catahoula Crunch,” which began this week in that city in the state of Louisiana.
The federal agency identified the detainee as Jorge Vierra Serrano in a post on social media X, accompanied by a video of the arrest, which began with the phrase: “Another violator locked up.”
In the images, federal agents in civilian clothing are seen leading the Cuban, who is handcuffed and shackled at the ankles.
According to official information, Vierra Serrano has been sentenced for rape with the use of force and burglary in Louisiana. Following his arrest, he is being processed for deportation.
"If you are an illegal foreign criminal, it doesn't matter where you are from: we will send you back to your country," was the warning from DHS.
On December 3, the National Security authorities launched a federal police offensive in New Orleans, Louisiana, under the name "Operation Catahoula Crunch."
A statement on the agency's website stated that it is aimed at “criminal illegal immigrants who roam freely” in that city, and blamed this on “sanctuary policies that compel local authorities to ignore arrest and detention orders from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).”
The DHS argues that these restrictions on cooperation between local law enforcement and federal agencies allow "murderers to remain at large" and that many others are due to be released from prison.
"The objectives of Catahoula Crunch include violent offenders who were released after being arrested for burglary, armed robbery, car theft, and rape," stated DHS Deputy Secretary, Tricia McLaughlin. "It is absurd that these monsters have been released back onto the streets of New Orleans to commit more crimes and cause more victims."
The day before, the agency released profiles of several of the arrested individuals at the start of the operation, which it described as “some of the worst criminal illegal immigrants released back onto the streets of Louisiana.”
This Thursday, cases of undocumented migrants with serious criminal convictions were made public, such as that of the Cuban Vierra Serrano.
His detention occurred at a time when the Trump administration has ramped up its offensive against illegal immigration, which is not only focused on the arrest and deportation of violent foreign criminals but also targets individuals at various stages of their migration processes who have not committed any crimes.
