Elián González, the former raft boy who is now a deputy and defender of the Cuban regime, led a march this Saturday commemorating the anniversary of the so-called "Battle of Ideas."

González was accompanied by part of his family and "his beautiful daughter," reported the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The march took place from Coronel Verdugo Avenue, between Ayllón and Ruiz, to the Museum of the Battle of Ideas in that city of Matanzas.

The museum unveiled an exhibition of "drawings by students from various educational levels related to the struggle for Elián's return to Cuba."

Additionally, Mario Sabines Lorenzo, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the province of Matanzas, and Marieta Poey Zamora, the governor of the province, were present at the march.

In the midst of the structural crisis that afflicts Cuban society, the Cuban regime continues to allocate resources to the empty ceremonial of its propaganda.

Twenty-five years after the case that made him a symbol of the confrontation between Cuba and the United States, the former balsero boy fervently defends the very system that used him as a political banner, and from his position of power, blames the "empire" for everything that happens on the Island.

In October,  he held the government of the United States responsible for the serious crisis that Cuba is experiencing and assured that in the Island “there are no major mistakes being made.”

The "Battle of Ideas" in Cuba was a massive political and propaganda campaign launched in 2000 by Fidel Castro, in response to the González case, to reinforce state control.
