The Cuban influencer Flor de Cuba sparked conversation on social media again after posting a video where she candidly discussed how she manages money with her partner, Alex, and about the prejudices that still exist when a woman earns more than her boyfriend. Her message, honest and unfiltered, has garnered hundreds of thousands of views and over 300 comments, mostly in support.
In the video, the creator explained that from the beginning of her relationship with Alex, the economic difference between them was evident, but that never influenced their bond. “When I met him, he was working at a music studio and earning between 400 and 600 dollars a month. I already had my business and was making money on social media,” she shared. “My income has always been extremely higher than Alex's,” she added candidly.
Flor recounted that after moving together to Holguín and then emigrating to the United States, her professional life continued to grow thanks to her work on social media and TikTok Shop. Alex, for his part, worked in a warehouse selling electronic products. Later, when she expanded her team, she decided to hire him as part of her content business. “I prefer to pay him than a stranger. He works with me, not for me,” she stated.
The influencer also explained how they manage their household finances, advocating for a model based on equity. “We handle money equitably, not equally. If he earns 10 and I earn 100, it's not fair for each of us to pay half of the rent. What’s fair is to contribute according to the percentage of what each person earns,” she emphasized, highlighting that the key to their relationship is teamwork.
But what most caught the attention of her followers was her strong message about economic independence. “I am an empowered woman who earns my own income, and what I need the least is a man with money because I have my own. I need a man who can help me, support me, and tolerate me,” she said with complete confidence. Her words were echoed by hundreds of female followers who celebrated her mindset.
The reactions were immediate. “You are an example of a modern woman,” wrote one user. “That’s how you speak, money does not define love,” commented another. Some even recalled knowing Alex while he was working in Cuba, asserting that “he is a hardworking man, not a freeloader.” The majority agreed that Flor and Alex represent a balanced and genuine couple, far from traditional stereotypes.
With her direct and reflective style, Flor de Cuba has managed to connect with an audience that values her transparency. In an environment where many creators showcase only luxury, she advocates for a different narrative: one of shared effort, respect, and independence. "I stopped focusing on money to pay attention to values," she concludes in the video. And judging by the audience's response, that authenticity remains her greatest strength.
