After several years of sacrifice and constant work, the young Cuban right-handed pitcher Yoenis Morales will sign with the Toronto Blue Jays organization once the next international period opens on January 15, 2026.

According to insider and journalist Francys Romero on Facebook, Morales, who is 21 years old, is a promising pitcher currently working on his fastball in the range of 92 to 95 miles per hour, a speed that positions him as a player with real potential to advance within the Major Leagues system if he continues to develop.

Born in Camagüey, Yoenis comes from a family with a strong baseball tradition. He is the nephew of Omar Luis Martínez, one of the great Cuban pitchers of the 1990s, who was a leader in strikeouts in the National Series during the 1994-95 seasons and an Olympic Champion in Atlanta 1996, where he played a key role by winning three games for Cuba.

The deal with Toronto represents a significant opportunity in Morales' career, as he seeks to make his mark in professional baseball after years of preparation away from the media spotlight.

Another young person seeking a better future

The Cuban baseball player Diego Fernández, 18 years old, left Cuba in recent hours with the goal of starting the process to sign with an organization in Major League Baseball (MLB), as confirmed by Romero himself on his social media.

Fernández represented Havana in the 2023 and 2024 U-18 National Championships, where he was considered one of the most promising young talents in his category.

Recently, the law also was part of the pre-selection for the Industriales team, a sign of the confidence that existed in its development within the structure of Cuban baseball.

After leaving the island, the player will train at the Cacón Academy, located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, one of the main training centers for international prospects seeking opportunities in professional baseball.

Diego Fernández will be eligible to sign once he receives the official free agent declaration, a necessary step to legally negotiate with MLB franchises.

His departure adds to the growing list of young talents that are leaving the Cuban sports system in search of better professional opportunities, competitive development, and economic stability, due to the structural limitations of baseball on the Island.
