A Cuban woman in Spain, who claims to have purchased her house within a year and a few months of arriving, recalled on social media what her life was like after making that decision and shared the financial difficulties she faced after achieving that goal.
"I bought my house a year and four months after arriving here in Spain. Many of you got to know me through this video, where I was clarifying and answering many questions about how the process went, but what I never told you was how my life was after I bought my house," she stated at the beginning of the video shared on her TikTok account @laurensgonzalez96.
She recounted that before that opportunity, she and her husband were "very happy because we had both regularized our status here and already had jobs, and things were going to get better for us. But suddenly, what happens to me? The opportunity for the house comes up."
According to what he explained, this involved a significant financial effort: “It means you need money for everything, to pay for paperwork, to buy the house, and for everything else. What did it lead to? We ended up with no savings at all. I wasn’t interested; I spent 10 months crying, 10 months where on the 5th of each month, we only had 50 euros left in our bank account to get through the month. But as I always say, every achievement comes with a sacrifice.”
"It was 10 months during which I felt overwhelmed with two small children, with hardly any money to get by, just a little extra that we could manage and some help from the family we had," she added.
The Cuban stated that she does not regret taking the step: “I truly do not regret starting over. When one arrives in these countries, you come with nothing. I had to arrive with nothing, to have a little, and then to be left with nothing again, but not from being without money, rather because of the stress in my home. So if you’re scared, just go for it. It’s okay to be left without money; in the end, everything will come together.”
Her testimony, focused on sacrifice and perseverance, garnered dozens of supportive comments from other Cuban emigrants in Spain. Many users congratulated her and highlighted her effort, while some recalled that not all newcomers manage to stabilize themselves as quickly.
Stories like hers are added to those of other Cubans who have also managed to purchase homes in Spain. Recently, Anita Mateu, a Cuban content creator, shared her experience of acquiring her first house in Galicia three years after emigrating, after visiting several banks and carefully planning her budget.
