The Cuban creator Keki Mami (@keki_mami_de_cuba) went viral on TikTok after firmly responding to those who criticize her for showcasing a “too good” life in Cuba. In her latest video, the influencer addressed the negative comments she often receives: “I live in Cuba and I don't have money to eat, but I do have money for an iPhone, according to my haters.”
“I clarify: I have never said that I don’t have anything to eat, that’s what you are saying,” he expressed while looking directly at the camera. “I have never claimed that my reality is the same as that of other Cubans, I have never generalized. There are needs in Cuba, that no one denies, but there are also people like me who don’t let the conditions of the country limit them in achieving their dreams.”
The young woman, mother of a small girl named Vero, explained that her intention is not to boast or gloss over the situation in the country, but to show another side of Cuban reality. “Am I a millionaire because I have a plate of food every day for my daughter? Why do I make sacrifices and every once in a while we go out as a family? Why do I help others who do not have the same opportunities as I do?”, she asked, in a firm and challenging tone.
With that same energy, @keki_mami_de_cuba also questioned those who demand that Cuban creators only showcase shortcomings. “Now it seems that if you don't show needs, complaints, and problems, you're not Cuban. Folks, you need to stop. That says more about you than it does about us.”
Her message was applauded by hundreds of followers. “It’s clear that she works hard and puts in effort; that’s what many people lack,” commented one user. “We, your loyal followers, love your content; don’t let that go,” wrote another. Many praised her ability to stand up for herself without losing her calm or her smile.
"I have needs, like every Cuban, but I prefer to show you the best," the creator concluded, making it clear that she does not intend to stop sharing her daily life from a place of positivity rather than from a standpoint of complaint.
