The police arrested a man who was caught red-handed while stealing a cell phone in a restaurant in Havana.

A video published this Tuesday by the profile un_martitodurako8_live_oficial on Instagram shows the moment when officers of the PNR (Revolutionary National Police), with the help of citizens and employees of the Los Nardos restaurant in Old Havana, remove the thief from the establishment, handcuffed, and place him in a patrol car.

According to details mentioned in the comments on the post, the man was caught by customers and staff of the establishment while attempting to steal a mobile phone, and they held him until the authorities arrived.

The images show the alleged offender, a young man, being escorted out with his hands tied with shoelaces, apparently from his own sneakers, which a police officer is holding in his hand.

A man delivers a punch before being placed in the police car, which arrived with astonishing speed at the restaurant entrance, located opposite the Capitol in Havana, a prime tourist area.

The publication did not specify from whom the thief attempted to steal the cell phone.

Several followers of the page claimed that the police arrested the individual, but they will likely release him within a few hours, allowing him to return to the streets to commit crimes again, which has become a frequent pattern in the country.

Others pointed out that the authorities are lenient with criminals and, on the contrary, impose high and arbitrary prison sentences on those who protest against the regime, the shortages, and the lack of freedoms in the country.

Scenes similar to those from this Tuesday have become commonplace on the social networks of Cubans and highlight the rampant rise in thefts and assaults in Cuba at any time of the day.

A couple of days ago, residents of San Miguel del Padrón, in Havana, captured a thief after several robberies in the neighborhood, which included clothes hanging on lines, a water pump, and other items.

Last week, an attempt to steal an electric motorcycle was thwarted thanks to the quick intervention of several individuals in a central area of Santiago de Cuba. In the same eastern city, residents of a neighborhood surprised another individual as he was trying to enter a home.
