The community of the municipality of Colón, in the province of Matanzas, is in shock after the murder of the young Dilan Alejandro Lima León, who was only 17 years old, which occurred on December 26.

The teenager, known among family and friends as “Chabiakan”, lost his life after being attacked with bladed weapons by several individuals who, according to witnesses, returned to the scene to seek vengeance following a fight. The information was confirmed by Cuban activist Irma Lidia Broek and shared with more details by the media CubaHerald.

He tried to avoid a fight and ended up murdered

According to reports, Dilan intervened to separate a fight involving one of his cousins. When the altercation seemed to have ended and everyone left, the young man stayed for a few minutes at the site to grab a bite to eat before returning home.

However, the attackers returned armed with knives and ambushed him, delivering several stabs, one of which punctured a lung and caused his death on the spot.

Pain and cries for justice

Neighbors and acquaintances described Dilan as a respectful, hardworking, and kind-hearted young man. He was the only son of a mother who had raised him alone, with sacrifice and dedication. "He was an exemplary young man, he didn't get involved with anyone," neighbors expressed on social media.

The tragedy has sparked a wave of outrage in Colón and throughout Matanzas. On Facebook, hundreds of users have expressed their sorrow and demanded justice for the murder. “This town is hurting. Those responsible must pay for what they did,” wrote one user.

Youth violence and lack of responses

The murder of Dilan adds to a growing list of violent incidents across various provinces in the country, where young people have lost their lives in brawls or attacks with bladed weapons.

Cuban organizations and activists report that the lack of opportunities, social decay, and impunity fuel these kinds of tragedies.

So far, the Cuban authorities have not released any official information regarding the capture of those responsible or the status of the investigation.

The community of Colón continues to mourn the loss of a young person whose life was unjustly cut short. Family and friends have asked for prayers and respect in the midst of their grief. “May God grant strength to his mother to bear this loss,” wrote the activist.
