The professional boxer Yuniesky González has recently made a heartbreaking statement regarding the death of his cousin in Cuba, an event that has shaken family, friends, and acquaintances of the deceased.
Through a post on her Facebook profile, González shared images with her loved one, accompanied by a brief yet impactful message:
“#EPD my cousin, light for your soul. A great man, a warrior has been killed. I am shattered, but I have to be strong for the rest of the family”, he wrote.
Although the details surrounding the circumstances of the crime have not yet been clarified, along with the statement from Ymúltiples and comments from people close to the deceased—identified by several as "Reinier" and nicknamed "Casiguara" or "the younger Casiguara"—point to a violent death.
Who was Reinier? Testimonies of admiration and pain
The avalanche of condolences on social media paints a portrait of a man who was deeply loved and respected by his community. Several users describe him as a boxing coach, a loyal friend, and a positive figure
“Anyone who knew Reinier and had the pleasure of sharing, being his student, and training with him knows what he meant and what he conveyed. The good vibes were always present, although he was a coach who spoke firmly...”, wrote a commentator.
"They extinguished a great one, the best of all. I didn't have the courage to see him in that box, to hold onto all his virtues in person. Eternal light for that brother of mine," another pointed out.
Caridad Rivero also confirmed her connection to the sports world:
“A very good coach, a great friend, a friendly person. We had a high opinion of him, the best in sports. He was my son's coach on the farm. We appreciated him. That news was a big surprise for my son, coming from a person full of life.”
The general impression among dozens of users is the same: Reinier was a close figure, active in his environment, dedicated to his work, and always willing to support others.
Shared pain, unanswered questions
Despite the flood of condolence messages, many commentators expressed a common concern: what really happened? Several are directly asking whether it was a robbery, a brawl, or some other type of incident.
The response from some acquaintances suggests that it was a murder, but there is no official information or accurate accounts confirming the circumstances of the event.
San Luis in mourning: A community with a broken heart
Although the location of the crime has not been officially confirmed, multiple messages refer to San Luis, a municipality in the province of Pinar del Río, as the place of origin or residence of the deceased.
A very revealing comment summed it up this way:
"Everyone who knew him has a heavy heart. He was a brother, a friend, and brightened anyone's day. He will be greatly missed because he was one of a kind. A great friend," lamented Luis Calzadilla Rivera.
The pain expressed on social media transcends generations, territories, and professions. From coaches and colleagues to former students and neighbors, everyone seems to agree on the same idea: a valuable man has been lost, and his departure leaves a deep and unjust void.
"Hard champion. What a great guy, his nobility shone as bright as the sun," wrote Adalberto Ballona.
"Such a tremendous loss. An excellent man and friend, he treated everyone well. A wonderful work companion. May God have him in His holy glory," added Sergio E. Benítez.
So far, no official statement has been issued by the Cuban authorities that clarifies the events, identifies those responsible, or explains the causes of death.
Despite a user writing “They caught the person responsible”, no verified accounts of what happened have been released.
In recent years, Cuba has experienced a troubling increase in violence and homicides, a phenomenon that contrasts with the official security narrative that for decades portrayed the island as one of the safest countries in the region.
Social media, citizen reports, and the work of independent media have documented an increase in murders, knife attacks, and violent incidents in both urban and rural areas, many of which are linked to robberies, personal disputes, and the deterioration of living conditions.
Although the Government has partially acknowledged the rise in certain crimes, the lack of detailed and up-to-date public statistics on homicides makes it difficult to accurately assess the magnitude of the problem, while the perception of insecurity among the population grows and reports of impunity and lack of effective response from the authorities multiply.
