A fire involving an electric tricycle inside a house in the city of Bayamo, Granma, on Tuesday night, caused a great deal of alarm in the area, but neither the residents of the house nor anyone else was injured.
A video posted on Facebook by singer and activist Saúl Manuel captured the fire that originated from the lithium battery of the tricycle while it was parked at the entrance of the house located on 26 de Julio street.
When the fire broke out, the residents of the house were in the back, but everyone emerged unscathed, thanks to the swift actions of the neighbors.
Several people rushed to the scene, managed to pull the vehicle out into the street, and helped extinguish the fire using buckets of water. To do this, they even had to tip over the tricycle, as the flames continued to rage.
On more than one occasion, when it seemed that they had been extinguished, they flared up again. A large amount of water was needed to quell the fire and cool the battery completely.
Witnesses stated that the firefighters arrived at the scene after the fire had already been extinguished.
The tricycle suffered severe damage, as can be seen in the images.
In the comments on the post, Dalia Aguilar Rodríguez, the granddaughter of the homeowner, revealed that she and her family were inside when the fire started and assured that everyone is fine.
"My grandparents usually sit right there in front, next to the tricycle," he said. "Thank God, we were all in the back, and we're all okay, thanks to God and the neighbors who came to help."
Fires involving electric vehicles, mainly motorcycles, are quite common in the country. This phenomenon has raised concerns among the population, while authorities have urged an increase in safety and responsibility regarding the use and maintenance of these modes of transportation.
This Tuesday, in the Marianao municipality of Havana, a fire broke out in an electric motorcycle on a public street.
