The US dollar has resumed its upward trend in the Cuban informal market and this Sunday, January 4, 2026, it is quoted at 440 Cuban pesos (CUP), according to the rate published by elTOQUE.

The U.S. dollar rose by five pesos in value after the events that shocked Cubans and Venezuelans on Saturday, following the U.S. military incursion into Venezuela that captured ruler Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores to bring them to New York to face drug trafficking charges.

The prices of the other two major currencies in Cuba remained stable. The euro is quoted at 480 CUP, solidifying its position as the strongest currency in the informal market. Meanwhile, the Convertible Currency (MLC) hovers around 395 CUP.
