The Cuban businessman and influencer Sandro Castro has once again found himself at the center of controversy after posting a message on Instagram regarding the capture of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and directing a request to President Donald Trump.
"Regarding President Donald Trump of the United States, I address you with great respect. If you are going to put the former President Nicolás Maduro on trial, do it in a tangible way; demonstrate the evidence you have regarding drug trafficking, the evidence that people often ask where it is, from where these accusations arise," said Sandro.
He also asked Trump that the trial against Maduro be "tangible and fair, so that no injustice is ever committed." The influencer's statements quickly sparked a wave of reactions.
Numerous users criticized Sandro for demanding transparency from the United States while remaining silent about the judicial opacity of the Cuban regime, where processes such as that of the former Minister of Economy, Alejandro Gil, were conducted in complete secrecy and without the government providing a single public piece of evidence regarding the corruption and espionage accusations.
The comments on his post agreed in questioning the "lack of coherence" of the deceased dictator's grandson, recalling the privileges that Sandro Castro enjoys in Cuba, in contrast to the repression faced by Cubans who demand rights or political transparency.
The "Vampirash" concluded his message with a call for peace: "I love you all, I ask for peace, love, and no to war," but the controversy was already brewing.
While some supporters applauded his conciliatory tone, most of the comments on his post demanded that he also speak out about the lack of freedoms in Cuba.
