A man of Cuban origin was arrested this week in northwest Miami-Dade after committing a brutal assault against his brother-in-law, an incident that has raised concerns due to the violence displayed and the series of attacks that put the victim's life at risk.

The violent altercation broke out around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, in the vicinity of Northwest 46th Street and 32nd Avenue, a residential area in Miami-Dade County.

According to the police report, two men -brothers-in-law- started arguing for reasons that the authorities have not yet disclosed.

During the confrontation, the alleged aggressor, 48 years old and identified as Dayan Bruzón Díaz, pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man in the upper part of his left arm.

"The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition," confirmed agents from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office.

However, the moments following the stabbing exhibited a pattern of violent behavior on the part of the detainee.

A desperate escape and an armed chase

According to the arrest report cited by the local press, after being stabbed, the victim attempted to flee the scene.

In an effort to fend off the attacker, he picked up stones from the ground and threw them at Bruzón Díaz while running, desperately trying to create distance and protect himself.

Instead of stopping, the attacker intensified their assault.

“Bruzon-Díaz grabbed a yellow bat from inside his nearby vehicle and threw it at the victim, but missed,” the authorities reported.

Not content with that, he got into his vehicle and attempted to run over his brother-in-law, an action that, had it been successful, could have ended in tragedy.

The sequence of events reveals an alarming level of violence that goes beyond an impulsive dispute, necessitating immediate intervention by law enforcement.

Arrest and charges: Aggravated assault and criminal negligence

On Wednesday morning, he was transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remains in custody while his legal situation is being determined.

Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a crime that in the state of Florida can result in up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, classified as a second-degree felony with similar penalties.

Criminal negligence, another charge that, although of lesser weight, worsens his profile before the justice system due to the deliberate risk posed on public roads.

Local authorities have opened an investigation to clarify the reason for the fight, as well as to assess any possible history of domestic violence or prior family conflicts among those involved.

Although the identity of the victim has not been disclosed for legal and safety reasons, it has been confirmed that she remains hospitalized and out of danger. The Sheriff's Office is continuing to gather testimonies and evidence regarding the incident.
