The informal currency market in Cuba begins this January 13 with two important updates: the price of the dollar and the euro has increased.
In recent hours, the US dollar rose to 470 CUP in the informal exchange rate on the island, as reflected this Tuesday in the rate published by the independent media elTOQUE.
The figure represents an increase of five pesos compared to the dollar's value on the previous day.
The dollar today marks its fifth consecutive day of increase in value in the unofficial market in Cuba.
Exchange Rate Evolution
In the case of the euro, the European currency rises to 505 CUP, which is five units more than its previous price.
Both increases confirm the upward trend of currencies on the island since the beginning of 2026, a period that coincides with the capture of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela on January 3rd, an event that has generated political tension and economic instability throughout the region.
The increase occurs, moreover, amid growing warnings from Donald Trump regarding Cuba and his pursuit of a "deal" with the regime, as announced by the president last Sunday night, although Díaz-Canel later denied that there were "conversations" with the U.S. administration.
Regarding the evolution of the value of the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), it remains stable at 400 CUP since last Friday.
With the informal market rate on January 13, the Cuban peso has further declined against the dollar, marking the beginning of a year characterized by political and economic uncertainty, along with the already common loss of purchasing power on the island.
