The Cuban musician Cándido Fabré, known for his support of the Havana regime, publicly defended socialism once again and praised leader Lázaro Expósito Canto, former first secretary of the Communist Party in Santiago de Cuba and Granma.

“Demonstrated that with revolution and socialism, it is indeed possible to motivate a people and move them forward,” wrote Fabré in a message published on Facebook, in which he praised Expósito as a “leader who has come to stay in the hearts of this country, despite the blockade.”

Fabré, who has been a steadfast defender of communist ideology and the policies of the Cuban government for decades, stated that Expósito turned Granma and Santiago into "two beacons" in which many wished to see themselves "to discover the magic and vision of that leader."

The singer also called for "changing what must be changed" and for finding "revolutionarily among us a new leader, son, soldier, guardian of this historic country," seemingly alluding to the need for continuity within the political project of the regime, where the main officials lack respect and admiration.

Fabré's message is a new demonstration of support for the communist system and its leaders, at a time when the country is experiencing one of the most severe economic crises in its recent history.

Cándido Fabré, author of numerous popular dance music songs, has maintained throughout his career an unwavering stance in support of the Communist Party and Fidel Castro, which has garnered him both admiration from official sectors and criticism from Cubans calling for political change on the island.
