The Cuban singer Omara Portuondo denied the rumors that circulated on social media about a supposed hospital admission and stated that she is “in good health,” maintaining her usual routine and eager to continue sharing her music.

The news was confirmed in an official statement attributed to her social media team and family.

"The content circulating is false and lacks official confirmation," the text states, also urging its followers not to spread rumors to avoid "unnecessary concern," and expressing gratitude for the support and affection from the public.

"Omara is in good health, continuing her usual routine and eager to keep sharing her music with all of you. The information circulating is false and lacks official confirmation," says the note.

The 95-year-old artist —considered an iconic figure of Cuban music and associated with the international phenomenon of the Buena Vista Social Club— had announced her retirement from the stage in 2024.

In a message shared on social media, Portuondo stated that she would not do “more long live concerts” due to the fatigue associated with her age, but emphasized that she was not retiring and that she would continue with recordings and other activities “as my age and health allow.”

In that same message, the singer reiterated her intention to remain connected to the arts as long as she has the strength and an audience that wants to listen to her, and she expressed her gratitude to her family, friends, her doctor, and the people who take care of her.

He also defended his right to make decisions about his life with dignity, as stated in the text.

With the denial, Portuondo's team sought to stop the misinformation and reiterated that the artist remains active within her means, maintaining her commitment to music despite the natural limitations of age.

Omara Portuondo is one of the most important and renowned singers from Cuba, regarded as a living legend of Latin American music.

She was born on October 29, 1930, in Havana and is known worldwide as "The Bride of Filin," a Cuban musical movement that fused bolero with jazz influences in the 1940s and 1950s.

She began her professional career in the 1940s. She was a member of the prestigious Cuarteto d’Aida, one of the most influential female vocal groups in Cuba.

He gained international fame in the 90s as part of the Buena Vista Social Club project, which brought traditional Cuban music to stages around the world.
