Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer has made a new call to action directed at both citizens and members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), warning that “if Cuba does not change, it will sink.”
In a , Ferrer wrote: “Cuban reader in Cuba, if you wish to contribute publicly or clandestinely to the fight for the freedom and well-being of our Homeland, message me on WhatsApp at +1 305 970 8858. Together we can accomplish a lot. #TogetherWeAreStronger.”
"This message is also addressed to the members of the FAR and Minint who know that if Cuba does not change, it is destined to sink," added the leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU).
The opponent, exiled by the Cuban regime in October 2025, has intensified his messages in recent weeks with direct calls to the military and the population to promote political change on the Island. The arrival of the founder of UNPACU in Miami marked the closure of one of the longest chapters of political persecution on the island and the beginning of a new phase of activism from exile.
On January 8, Ferrer released an open letter addressed to the commanders and troops of the FAR and the MININT, in which he urged them to “promote political change in Cuba and cease to serve as instruments of repression.” In that letter, he stated that the country is experiencing “the worst crisis in seven decades,” characterized by economic, energy, social, and food problems, as well as a massive exodus of citizens.
A week later, he addressed the Cubans again in a message in which he urged them to seize “the current moment” to free Cuba. In this text, he encouraged them to “break ties with the organizations that are part of the regime's control apparatus,” including the CDR, FMC, CTC, and FEU, and to join “pro-democracy movements” that promote freedom and democracy.
On that occasion, the opposition leader also appealed to the military, reminding them that "they too are affected by the current situation and that change would benefit their families."
Ferrer’s recent messages reflect a sustained mobilization strategy, focused on encouraging both citizens and armed institutions to actively participate in the country’s political transformation process.
