The Higher Institute of Design (ISDi) in Havana expressed its support and solidarity with the Cuban professor and designer Daniela Arteaga Martínez, injured in the train accident that occurred last Sunday in Adamuz, in southern Spain, which left 41 dead and over 150 injured.

Arteaga, a graduate of the 33rd class of ISDi and a faculty member in the Visual Communication Design program, is currently hospitalized at the Reina Sofía University Hospital in Córdoba, where her condition is stable and not life-threatening.

The young designer traveled to Spain on a scholarship from the International University of Andalusia (UNIA) to pursue a master's degree in Communication and Audiovisual Education.

According to ISDi, Daniela had arrived on the same day of the accident at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport and was supposed to continue her journey to Huelva on the train that met with the accident, which was her only means of transport to the UNIA headquarters.

"Our dear ISDiana and the victorious Mapaches had arrived that same day at Adolfo Suárez Barajas Airport in Madrid and were set to continue their journey to their final destination, Huelva, two days ago on the ill-fated train that was their only means of communication with the UNIA Headquarters," the institution published on its social media.

ISDi expressed gratitude for the messages of solidarity received and conveyed its best wishes for the swift recovery of the professor.

"All of her family at ISDi is grateful for every act of solidarity with Daniela and hopes for her swift recovery so she can continue her professional growth, as she has much love and a bright future ahead. Many blessings and strength for Daniela Arteaga," stated the institutional message.

Although the ISDi statement mentions this Tuesday that there are four injured Cubans, the Cuban Embassy in Spain had only confirmed three on Monday.

In its post, the embassy also reported that two of the Cubans have already been discharged and one remains hospitalized.

The diplomatic statement added that efforts are ongoing with Spanish authorities to determine if there are any other Cuban citizens among the victims, and that updates will be provided as soon as new information becomes available.

This Monday, it was also reported that Tamara Margarita Valdés, a Cuban resident in Huelva, is one of the individuals missing following the serious accident that involved two high-speed trains.
