The popular content creator Pollito Tropical reported in a video on social media that he has been a victim of a digital scam for the past six months. He explained that hackers have taken control of his TikTok account, where he has amassed 4.8 million followers, and are asking for money in his name.
“My loves, I have been scammed for the past six months. Since June first, my TikTok was hacked, and they are asking me for 10 thousand dollars. Everything has been changed: the device, the country from which I opened the account, the email... they have even contacted my sponsors pretending to be me to ask for more money,” he explained, visibly upset.
The influencer asked his followers to report the account in order to have the platform shut it down permanently. “I’m stressed, I've been dealing with this for over six months. I don’t want them to continue benefiting from my name. I would appreciate it if you help me report it,” he added.
The complaint ignited social media, where hundreds of users expressed their support for the creator, while others raised doubts about the authenticity of the video, wondering if it could also be a case of impersonation or the use of artificial intelligence.
"Don't worry, Pollito, I've already reported it"; "I went through the same thing, I know how frustrating it is," or "It's extortion, that can be reported," were some of the most repeated messages.
Many followers were surprised that such a well-known figure fell victim to such a complex hacking incident, which not only involved changing the country in the account records, but also a fake WhatsApp number and emails using their identity.
"What they are doing is on another level, I have never heard anything like it," said Pollito, who claimed he is willing to start from scratch if he can't win her back.
So far, TikTok has not made any statements regarding the case, but the Pollito Tropical account on TikTok remains active. Meanwhile, the public remains divided between support, disbelief, and concern over the lack of protection that content creators face in the face of such digital crimes.
