The Cuban singer Abel Díaz Rodríguez, known as “El Chulo”, was classified by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a dangerous criminal and an active member of the Latin Kings gang following his recent arrest in the United States.

The information was provided by ICE in a statement sent to the network Telemundo, where the agency detailed that Rodríguez was convicted in 2017 for second-degree attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, crimes committed after legally entering the country in 2011 with a fiancé visa.

The text notes that Díaz Rodríguez "used his opportunity of the American dream to terrorize others," and that following his conviction, an immigration judge issued a final deportation order on October 1, 2018.

According to the statement, ICE agents arrested "El Chulo" on January 22, 2026, and he remains in custody while his deportation process from the United States is completed.

The federal agency described the detainee as a "dangerous illegal criminal" and noted that he is "a known active member of the Latin Kings," one of the largest and most violent criminal organizations in the country.

ICE told Univisión that the artist's immigration future is "uncertain" and that he could be deported not only to Cuba but also to a third country, depending on the final assessment of the case.

Additionally, he reiterated that Abel Díaz Rodríguez is “an illegal immigrant with a criminal record from Cuba and a known active member of the Latin Kings gang,” which, according to authorities, makes him a “high public risk” individual.

The singer's lawyer, José Guerrero, recently stated that he sees it as “very difficult” for the Cuban reggaeton artist El Chulo to be released by ICE following his detention in the United States, given that the artist has a final deportation order.
