The Cuban-American congressman from Florida Maxwell Alejandro Frost was punched during an event at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah on Saturday.

The Democrat was assaulted during a party in a racially motivated incident by a man who had previously told him that Donald Trump would deport him, Frost reported on his social media.

“Last night, a man attacked me at the Sundance Festival. He told me that Trump was going to deport me before hitting me in the face,” said Frost.

"He was heard shouting racist comments while fleeing drunkenly. The individual was arrested and I'm fine," he added

The Park City police stated that the suspect, Christian Young, was arrested on charges of aggravated robbery and two counts of simple assault.

Young illegally entered a private party after being turned away for not having an invitation, and at the bar, he assaulted both a congressman and a woman.

After confirming the assault, Frost stated in a subsequent post that he was "fine."

"We are going through difficult times (...) Please stay safe and do not let these people silence you. Move forward," he added

Hakeem Jeffries, the leader of the Democratic minority in the House of Representatives, expressed that he is "grateful" Frost "is safe, but outraged by this terrible attack. The assailant must be prosecuted vigorously."

"Hate and political violence have no place in our country, and the entire Democratic Caucus family in the House of Representatives supports Maxwell," he added.

In 2022, the now 29-year-old congressman became the first seat for Generation Z in the United States Congress.

The Afro-Cuban is a progressive democrat whose agenda focuses on armed violence, climate change, the right to abortion, and Medicare for all.
