The billionaire Elon Musk caused a moment of confusion and awkward silence during his appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, joking about the Peace Board created by U.S. President Donald Trump.
“I heard about the formation of the Peace Summit and I wondered: is it “peace” or “piece”?,” Musk said, playing with the English words for “peace” and “piece,” alluding to whether Trump was seeking peace or “a piece” of other countries.
The joke barely elicited laughter from the audience, although the magnate insisted amid laughs: “You know... a little piece of Greenland, a little piece of Venezuela”.
The Trump Peace Board, officially presented in January during the same forum, aims to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza and address other international conflicts.
The organization —presided over for life by Trump— envisions a membership model with a contribution of 1 billion dollars to obtain a permanent seat.
Musk, 54, was one of the first officials in the current Republican administration, heading the Department of Government Efficiency, but he resigned from the position in May 2025 to focus on his businesses.
After months of distancing from Trump, both seem to have rekindled their relationship; Musk recently attended events alongside the president and described a dinner at Mar-a-Lago as “charming.”
Trump's international initiative continues to generate controversy. Some European governments have rejected it, viewing it as an alternative to the UN, while over twenty countries—including Argentina, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia—have confirmed their support.
