The Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado emphasized in a post on her X account the priority that President Donald Trump's government places on Venezuela, after meeting in Washington with the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.

During the meeting, held in the context of the Trump administration's policy towards the Venezuelan transition, Machado thanked the head of U.S. diplomacy "for this great conversation" and emphasized that Venezuelans are living through "decisive hours and days" for the future of the country.

The leader affirmed that "this meeting confirms the priority that your government has assigned to the threats, challenges, and opportunities we face in the Americas, and especially in Venezuela," referring to the role of the United States in the political process initiated after the fall of Nicolás Maduro's regime.

On that same day, Marco Rubio explained before the Senate that the policy of Donald Trump's administration towards Venezuela focuses on a democratic and stable transition, without military intervention. “The only military presence you will see in Venezuela is our Marines at an embassy,” said the Secretary of State, who emphasized that Washington “is not preparing, nor does it intend or expect to take any military action in Venezuela at any time.”

The statements from the head of U.S. diplomacy came just hours before his meeting with Machado in Washington, a meeting that coincided with a message in which the opposition leader called for a "real transition" in Venezuela and rejected any agreement that would maintain the structures of chavismo during the change process driven by the United States.

Machado reaffirmed that her movement is working to restore democratic institutions in Venezuela. "Rest assured that with the support of our genuine allies and with God's guidance, we will achieve it," she wrote.
