According to an arrest warrant from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, cited by the television channel Local 10 News, on the day the incident occurred, a staff member at the nursing home was in the dining room assisting patients when she heard someone scream.

As she turned around, she saw Canina Ramos yelling at the victim and then hitting her on the shoulder and arm with an open hand.

The employee tried to stop the aggression by stepping between Canina Ramos and the elderly woman. For a moment, the aggressor stepped back, but then she returned and shouted at the lady again.

The authorities stated that the accused grabbed the victim's clothing and struck her again, "this time holding her wrist with enough force to cause an abrasion that led to bleeding."

The police report states that the witness placed a napkin over the wound to stop the bleeding and used her cellphone to take photographs of the injuries, which she later gave to the officers.

Everything that happened was captured by surveillance cameras at the orphanage. The videos, obtained by the detectives, confirm the witness's statement of the events.

Until the morning of this Wednesday, Canina Ramos remained in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, with a bail set at $2,500.
