The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took a Cuban citizen into custody, who is deemed a "serial offender" due to his extensive criminal history, following his arrest in Dallas, Texas.

The Cuban, identified as Gualberto Jaimes García, has a criminal record for sexual assault, 40 charges for identity theft, 37 for misuse of monetary instruments, theft of fuel, and driving without a license, according to the agency on the social network X.

Jaimes García was arrested by ICE Dallas forces, in collaboration with agents from the Wyoming State Highway Patrol, as part of the 287(g) program of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act, which allows local and state authorities to work with ICE to detain and deport individuals without legal immigration status.

The official communication emphasized that the arrest of Jaimes García allowed for “removing him from the streets of the U.S. permanently.”

The authorities did not provide information regarding the sentences imposed on the Cuban for the multiple crimes committed, nor the current status of his immigration case.

His arrest took place during the peak of the strict immigration policy against illegal immigration implemented by President Donald Trump's administration, starting in January 2025.

ICE and other federal agencies under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), along with state and local law enforcement, have increased raids and arrests of undocumented individuals—among them migrants with criminal convictions or pending charges—who are held in detention centers until their deportation.

DHS has reiterated that 70% of those arrested are convicted criminals or have criminal charges. Meanwhile, human rights organizations and community leaders have reported that among the detainees are also numerous workers with no criminal records who had lived in the U.S. for years, paid taxes, and supported their families.

According to official data, nearly three million illegal immigrants left the United States in 2025: about 2.2 million due to “self-deportation” and more than 675,000 due to direct expulsion by immigration authorities.
