An emotional video shared on TikTok has touched thousands of Cubans both on the island and abroad. In the footage, a young man embraces his grandmother in tears after years of being unable to see her due to the restrictions imposed by the Cuban regime.
"I had no legal right to enter Cuba; I had a human reason: her," wrote the user @kevingr1996 alongside the post, which has already garnered hundreds of thousands of views and comments filled with nostalgia and pain.
The author of the video explained that he could not return to his own country "due to an absurd policy," referring to the immigration regulations that prevent many exiled Cubans or residents abroad from entering the island, even to visit sick or elderly family members.
The reunion, filmed in what appears to be a modest home in Cuba, captures the moment when the grandson bends down to embrace his grandmother in a wheelchair. She, visibly moved, holds him tightly as they both cry.
"You embraced her for all those of us who could never hug a grandmother we left in Cuba," commented a user, reflecting the shared sentiment of a generation separated by emigration and the regime's policies.
Another person wrote: "I went to Cuba in 2022 to see my grandmother, and she passed away seven days after I returned. The life of an immigrant is not easy. You leave behind so much in search of prosperity and freedom. All because of the communism that has already destroyed several generations."
The story of Kevin and his grandmother has become a symbol of the forced separation experienced by thousands of Cuban families. Many emigrants assert that, beyond the pain, those reunions remind them of what truly matters: love, family, and the freedom that the regime took from them.
