A fire that broke out early Tuesday morning caused damage to a home in Miami and displaced a family of five adults along with their pets.
The incident was reported shortly after 5:00 AM at a house located in the 2200 block of Southwest 24th Terrace, according to the Miami City Fire and Rescue Department.
According to Lieutenant Pete Sánchez, spokesperson for the fire department, emergency crews found a single-family home with heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage and carport. The officer explained that crews deployed hoses for a direct attack on the fire, while other teams searched the interior for potential occupants, as reported to Local10.
"When the units arrived, they found smoke and fire coming from a single-family home with a garage and driveway, which was where most of the flames were concentrated," Sánchez stated in remarks collected by NBC Miami.
The firefighters controlled the fire in about ten minutes and managed to contain it in the garage and carport area, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the home.
All residents evacuated the building before the rescue teams arrived. The firefighters also assisted in rescuing the family's pets, including a dog and several birds.
The authorities reported that the family will be temporarily displaced due to smoke damage throughout the house, but they will be staying with relatives and do not need additional assistance at this time.
Residents of the area reported that they woke up to the presence of ambulances and firefighters working in the vicinity. “I heard a lot of ambulances and firefighters walking down the street. It's terrible, but as long as they are safe, that's what matters,” said a resident quoted by NBC Miami.
The Miami Fire Investigation Unit continues to analyze the causes of the incident.
